The Beginning of a Restoration

I’ve been thinking about this restoration for quite a while.
To the extent that i may be overthinking.

You have to prepare well to make sure a restoration goes as smoothly as possible.

The lovely items i’m looking at restoring are 2 quite rusty and sorry for themselves cutthroat razors. Picked up from a carboot a few weeks back.

The scales are scratched up and in bad condition as well.

Preparing for the restoration.

You need to get together everything you need before starting. I do anyway, as i don’t want to get to a point where i need to buy something or make something to complete the build, as i’ll put it down and never get round to it again.

For this restoration i needed quite a lot, so i have ordered and got together everything i need ready to go.

cof
  • Pins and Washers in Brass ordered from ebay. Enough for 10 restorations!!.
  • hardwood for some new scales ready to go.
  • peening hammer and block to work the pins into the scales.
  • sharpening stones
  • mini files
  • brass wire wheels
  • polishing heads and compounds
  • very fine grit sandpaper
  • dremel and small drillbits

I think that’s about everything for this build. seems like a lot for a couple of small razors, but i want to do this right, first time.

Getting on with the build

This will really be the subject of the next post. Also creating a video to go along with this build which will be on my youtube channel.

Any suggestions or advice, shoot me an email or drop a comment.
