Cleaning Silver Plate Antiques

A lot of the items that come my way as part of my Wife’s Antiques store, can be in less than perfect condition.

If it’s an item with nice patina, and a clean wouldn’t help the item, we don’t, we leave it as is, and give it a quick, non invasive clean of any surface grime.

When it’s an item that is silver plated, and i want to return it to proper use, then i will go ahead and give it a deeper clean.

Sometimes the tarnish adds character, but sometimes it just looks bad.

For instance this Candle Holder. That’s not patina, that’s just grime and muck. This had a deep clean and the results were great.

The Main Polish I use is Peek Polish

It’s good enough to do the job, but isn’t overly aggressive in my opinion.

This is good for plate items as going in too hard will just rub the plating off.

This was in a pretty bad state when arriving in the workshop, and i wanted to get it back to a point where it was usable.

As i said a light touch mostly, you jsut need to take the grime off first of all. It will probably still look a little dull.

Then quickly wipe off with a soft cloth or paper towel to bring the shine.

Have a quick look over at Wildcard Curiosities to see some of these items up for sale.

This site and channel, is all about having fun and learning new skills in a relaxed way. I have always been better at learning how to do something by watching someone else, and then giving it a go. Any questions, just drop me a message.
